The Department of Reconstructive and plastic surgery
The Department of Ophthalmic plastic and reconstructive surgery provides consulting and treatment for various disorders of ocular adnexa including eyelids, lacrimal ducts and the orbit.
The Department’s team offers high-quality medical and compassionate care for both children and adults with congenital malformations, injuries and traumatic deformities, post-burn scars, consequences of necrotizing conjunctivitis and severe forms of strabismus. As with all patients, the utmost care is taken to provide a professional and confidential evaluation with an individual treatment plan geared towards achievement of a natural aesthetic result.
More than fourteen thousand patients undergo oculoplastic surgical treatment in the S. Fyodorov Eye Microsurgery Federal State Institution every year

How to apply for medical treatment?
During the first consultation, our surgeon will ask special questions about the development of the disease, the treatment carried out, and the available examination results. Often after the consultation, patients are forced to return to their archive of medical records or contact specialized diagnostic centers for additional examination.
We are aware that foreign patients are having difficulty organizing the visa process and staying in the Russian Federation. Therefore, we recommend that you contact the S. Fyodorov Eye Microsurgery Federal State Institution with preliminary requests to resolve many issues in advance.
The request should reflect the patient’s complaints or his specific wishes.
Highly informative material are photographs of the patient’s face taken in different angles with eyes closed and open.
If any diagnostic tests or treatment measures have been previously performed, relevant medical reports are required.
Abnormal or traumatic deformations of the orbit, gross changes in the soft tissues of the orbit, strabismus and blepharoptosis caused by paralysis or cicatricial fusion, gross violation of the lacrimal ducts are considered as an indication to CT scan of the orbits. The CT result in DICOM format as well as other information materials can be sent for analysis by the surgeon by e-mail.
E-mail is a convenient format for preliminary evaluation of the clinical condition, planning and prediction of treatment.
How long will it take to stay in Russia?
The average time between the initial appointment and the surgery is 2 to 7 days. During this time, a surgical plan and a preoperative examination are prepared.
Duration of hospital stay also varies from 2 to 7 days. In most cases, a 2-day hospital stay is sufficient. The rest of the treatment can be done on an outpatient basis. The duration of stay in Moscow will depend on the complexity of the surgery. Complex reconstructive operations require observation and treatment lasting up to 3-4 weeks.
Thus, the entire treatment period from the first consultation to leaving home takes from 2 weeks to 1 month.
A preliminary analysis of medical information via the Internet significantly reduces this period.
Some types of pathology require several stages of treatment. As a rule, the interval between stages is several months.
